Your EU warranty rights on refurbished tech, explained
Legal & Compliance·21 May 2026 7 min read
Refurbished does not mean fewer rights. EU consumer law applies to second-hand goods sold by a trader, and several protections cannot be signed away.
Legal conformity
Under the EU Sale of Goods Directive, goods must conform to the contract for two years. For second-hand goods, a seller and consumer may agree a shorter period, but never less than one year. Reneweu applies a full 12-month commercial warranty on top of your statutory rights.
The 14-day withdrawal right
Distance purchases carry a 14-day right of withdrawal with no reason required. Reneweu covers the full 14 days and pays the return shipping.
Who you claim from
For marketplace purchases, your contract is with the seller, but Reneweu handles the claim end to end and steps in if a seller does not resolve it.
