Sustainability
Our impact
Making a new smartphone emits around 80 kg of CO₂e — most of it before it is ever switched on. Renewing one avoids almost all of that. Here is what that looks like in numbers we can defend.
Where the savings come from
Avoid manufacturing
Roughly 80% of a device's lifetime emissions happen before it is switched on. Renewing skips the mining, the smelting and the assembly line entirely.
Extend the life
Battery replaced below 85% health, spare parts published for our best-selling models, and repair guides in line with EU right-to-repair rules.
Close the loop
Free take-back of your old device, and certified recycling for anything we cannot resell.
Ship responsibly
Carbon-neutral delivery and returns across the EU, plastic-free packaging, and regional hubs so most parcels travel under 800 km.
CO₂e saved per device type
| Device | New | Renewed | Avoided |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smartphone | 80 kg | 17 kg | 63 kg |
| Laptop | 310 kg | 72 kg | 238 kg |
| Tablet | 130 kg | 29 kg | 101 kg |
| Smartwatch | 36 kg | 9 kg | 27 kg |
What we commit to
- Minimum 2-year conformity guarantee on every device, so it stays in use longer.
- Free collection and certified recycling for any device, whether you bought it from us or not.
- Published repairability score and spare-part availability on our top 50 models by 2027.
- 100% renewable electricity in Reneweu-operated hubs since 2024.
- Annual impact figures verified by an independent third party using a life-cycle assessment.
How we measure
Savings compare a renewed device against the manufacture and distribution of the equivalent new model, using ADEME-based life-cycle data plus our own refurbishment energy and transport figures. Emissions from diagnostics, part replacement, packaging and last-mile delivery are all counted on the renewed side. Where a figure is uncertain we use the least favourable value for us. The full methodology is published in our annual impact report.
